A different way of discovering Corsica…
The countryside of Solenzara is to be recommended to all those who love nature and who love outdoor walks. The flora is very varied and green. It is not uncommon to come across the famous Corsican sheep in the forest, wild boars and even splendid raptors. Open your eyes!
There are also many waterfalls and natural pools with crystal clear waters. The Solenzara river, which gave its name to the village, offers pretty bathing places. Indulge. And to vary the pleasures, you can introduce yourself to the joys of canyoning, with an instructor, of course!
Half an hour from Porto-Vecchio and its beaches, Ospedale (U Spidali) is the first small mountain village at an altitude of 900 meters. It owes its name to the old hospital in the region which used to be there.
At the exit of the village towards Zonza, a small median allows you to marvel at a breathtaking panorama of the gulf.
To see: A little higher, nestled in the heart of a lariccio pine and beech forest, the artificial lake of Ospedale, draws an enchanting setting, home of Prosper Merimee’s Mateo Falcone. This dam supplies drinking water to the entire far south region.
The village, the forest, the lake, places to discover all year round.
The village of Zonza is located in the heart of the Corsica Natural Park. Situated at the foot of the Bavella massif, at an altitude of around 900 meters, it has been the gateway to centuries for all the treasures of the Alta Rocca.
Zonza offers a panoramic view of the Bavella Needles and the Incudine.
You will discover on the heights of the village old granite houses built on rocky blocks which dominate the Asinao valley. Thanks to development on a human scale, the beauty of the sites has remained intact.
A popular resort for hotels and restaurants, Zonza offers many opportunities for outdoor activities in the surrounding area.
Also take advantage of your visit to discover the Viséo racecourse, the highest in Europe, which hosts horse racing days in a particularly friendly atmosphere.
