The loops of the Col de Bavella
Bavella is a mecca of southern Corsica. This imposing site itself summarizes the features of the relief of the island.
The needles have amazing shapes and colours that range from lightest red to the darkest gray, all sprinkled with immense forests.
Bavella form an impressive massif pinnacles carved in the red granite. The col de Bavella (1 243m) is considered the most beautiful in Corsica by the extent and richness of its panorama.
The Bavella massif consists of a Corsican pine forest on the hills of pines and oaks below, to which were joined cedar and chestnut trees since the sixties along reforestation that followed the successive fires.
Ideally located in the heart of Regional Natural Park of Corsica, the site of Bavella is a discovery of the unspoilt territory.
Corsica is an island, its fauna and flora are relatively protected from external influences. We finds there many endemic species, that is to say, which do not exist anywhere else.
At every turn, you will surely come across these rare species. They are protected. Do not pick, do not disturb them, observe, photograph … so long that wealth can continue to amaze nature lovers.
The circuit of the GR20
In the southeast of the island, on the route of the GR 20, an adventure playground for sports: walking, canonying, climbing, via ferrata …
The walk consists of two parts, north and south. Many hikers are walking from north to south ( “traditional” sense), but it is also very popular to make the journey from south to the north (“easier” sense). There are also several ways to follow the GR 20. You can very well do so in an “autonomous” spirit by taking all equipment with you (food, tent, kitchen equipment …) or in a “light” version, by sleeping and eating in shelters or sheep still inhabited by shepherds. We must consider the fact that the GR 20 passes through a regional park and bivouacs are only allowed in specific areas near shelters and at the foot of Monte Incudine on the set of Prati at the site of an ancient sanctuary. Hence the notion of well-defined steps; we do not camp anywhere on the GR 20.
Note that only shelters of Manganu, Matalza, Asinau (currently closed) and Paliri are located in Pumonti (the “Au-Delà-des-Monts”), that is to say, on the western side of the Central chain (at the west of a line including Girolata and Sari-Solenzara), one overlooking the Corse-du-Sud. All the others are located in the Cismonte (the “En-Deçà-des-Monts”), that is to say next Corsica (at the east of a line including Galeria and Solaro). Indeed, shelters of Prati and Usciolu, although belonging to the municipalities of Palneca and Cozzano in Pumonti, are located on the eastern slope of the big backbone, dominating in fact the municipalities of Isolaccio-di-Fiumorbo and Chisa in Cismonte.
To discover the most beautiful basins in the best conditions, and go up safely the streams without damaging a fragile ecosystem, it is better to call the professionals, the list is in the tourist offices.
